First Birthday Portraits | Apple Cake

I met little James last week for first birthday portraits (my favorite)! We had such a great time at the session starting at the park and heading over to his house for the celebratory cake smashing. The adorable thing about James is that he is an apple lover. He loves to touch, feel and taste any type of apple. In honor of this love, Cakes by Claudia created an adorable apple cake. And let me tell you it was a smashing sensation (pardon the pun). icon smile First Birthday Portraits | Apple Cake I hope you enjoy these portraits!

Red Dress Session | The Traveling Red Dress

I just completed my first red dress session and I’m so excited about how everything turned out! We chose to do the session in downtown Los Angeles, getting a little grittiness from the streets, which provided amazing contrast to the lovely red dress. Here’s four of my favorite images. Enjoy!

Meet Jasper. This little bundle of cuteness and energy is the newest member of the Mietzner family. This little Pomeranian puppy is as curious and active as a toddler, except he runs much quicker. LOL. I hope you enjoy these photos.

Save the Date | Heidi Jo Photography

t Save the Date | Heidi Jo Photography“Save-the-Date” cards are a great way to help your wedding guests plan ahead, show off your new fiancée and start working on your wedding guest list. Now a part of many wedding prep list’s, its common to send them out between 6 to 8 months ahead of time. Newly engaged Alicia Thompson says, “They are very important. But they should be quick and don’t need to be fancy. It’s a low key announcement.”

There are many different forms of Save-the-Date announcements, including Traditional Flat Photo Cards, Traditional Photos and Refrigerator Magnets.

Flat Photo Cards

Mpix.com-For one set of 25 5×7 Cards the price is $19.20   http://www.mpix.com/Product.aspx/postcards

Personalized Photo Save-the-Date: If your not creatively inclined there are plenty of pre-created templates out there. http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/shop/save-the-date-cards.htm

If you are creative or your photographer designed one for you check out on-line vendors like  http://www.mpix.com/PrintPricing.aspx

For tips on Save-the-Date wording I recommend, going to theknot.com. http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/save-the-dates/articles/save-the-date-wording.aspx?MsdVisit=1

Just remember, Save-the-Date cards don’t need to break the budget to be effective and amazing. Good luck and congratulations on getting married!

Sincerely,

Meet Lauren! She will be representing Heidi Jo Photography for the senior year of 2012 for Valencia High School. I had an excellent time getting to know Lauren during her senior session! Although we faced the challenges of extremely warm temps, we were able to walk away with some amazing photos of this beautiful senior. Thanks for the fun time Lauren!

10 Tips for Great Senior Portraits:

1.Sleep! Make sure you get at least 2 nights of good sleep before your photo session so that you will look fresh and won’t have bags under your eyes. Beauty sleep is real….
2.Hair Care. Guys, let a new hair cut grow out for at least a week before your pictures, allowing time for any white tan lines to disappear. Also, take the time to get a close shave. Girls, if you plan on coloring your hair or getting a new style, also allow at least a week to get used to the style.
3.Clothes. Have your clothes and accessories ready the night before your shoot. Choose clothes that reflect your style and the changing seasons (summer – fall). Make sure they are clean and free of wrinkles. Ask your photographer how many outfit changes he/she allows or suggests. For each outfit, put your accessories in a zip lock bag and attach it to the hanger.
4.Make-up. Girls bring your make-up, hair spray and curling iron to do touch ups. Make sure that your face make-up is blended into your neck so that when you look in the mirror your neck is not too white. Also check to see if you have tan lines that will show with the different outfits you are going to wear. Bring chapstick or lip gloss to keep your lips moist.
5.Glasses. If you wear glasses, bring an extra pair of frames without lenses. Many Optometrists will allow you to borrow a pair of frames for your Senior pictures.
6.Blemishes . Make sure that the Photographer you hire offers retouching. Don’t worry… your final prints will look great! Girls, don’t use too much make-up tring to hide blemishes. It will be easier for the Photographer to retouch your prints if you keep a more natural look.
7.Bring a friend. It can be really fun to have your pictures taken at the same time as your friend. Many Photographers will give a discount or extra wallets for you and your friend.
8.Finishing touches. Guys, make sure your fingernails are nicely trimmed. Girls, pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure the day before.
9.Smile. Most photographers will take your portrait with and without you smiling. If you wear braces and don’t like them, ask your photographer how much they charge to have them digitally removed. If you don’t like your smile, get in front of a mirror and practice it. Once you like a smile, close your eyes and smile, then open your eyes to see if it looks the way you want. Get used to how it feels to smile the way you think you look best. Don’t be afraid to whiten your teeth if you think you need to.

Most of all RELAX and HAVE FUN!!!
